Introduction
This memorial book documents 11,089 deaths and spans the existence of the Mittelbau-Dora Concentration Camp – from its founding as a subcamp of Buchenwald on 28 August 1943 to its establishment as the independent Mittelbau Concentration Camp on 28 October 1944 to its dissolution in April 1945.
The prisoners of the SS construction brigades who died after they were put under the jurisdiction of the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp in January 1945 are also listed in the memorial book.
Also recorded are the names of those who died here in the weeks following liberation on 11 April 1945 from the effects of their camp imprisonment, and who were buried in the cemetery of honour at Nordhausen.
The documentation of the deaths that took place before Dora Camp was made administratively independent in late October 1944 is based largely on research carried out for the memorial book of Buchenwald Concentration Camp, which was completed in summer 2007.
The Mittelbau-Dora Concentration Camp memorial book was presented to the Inmates’ Council on 12 April 2010 at the ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the camp’s liberation.
This online resource will be continuously amended and expanded. All users of the register are invited to contact the Mittelbau-Dora Concentration Camp Memorial with any corrections or additional information for the memorial book.
